The 72nd Annual Miss Auburn Pageant was celebrated this past last Saturday and two young women will serve as the new Ambassadors of Auburn for the next year. Alyssa, 22 of Loomis earned the title of Miss Auburn 2007-2008. Alyssa is a registered dental assistant who plans to promote "Smiles for Kids", a program which provides free dental services to underprivileged children in our community. Ashley, 16 of Auburn earned the title of Teen Miss Auburn. She will promote H.E.A.R.T. (Health Education Africa Resource Team) and is currently preparing to go on a mission trip to Africa. Both young women also won the Interview and Speech areas of the competition, and earned $1,000 scholarship bonds to help them continue their education. Other award winners were:

A Day at the Fair! Clowns, carnival rides and ice cream cones were all the rage at the Gold Country Fair this year. Featured during the Opening Ceremonies, was Talent Celebrity, Tessa, (Left) who sang the national anthem while crowds of onlookers saluted and members of the National Guard stood at attention. The four day long fair also offered many kids games and contests. Young Miss Auburn, Sophie, and Young Miss Sweetheart, Abbie (Right) assist a clown with photos of fairgoers. |

Mardi Gras Parade
Thousands of people lined the streets of Nevada City for the annual Mardi Gras parade. The newly crowned Junior Miss Auburn, Danielle, made her first appearance as she joined her pageant sisters on a float decorated in 50's theme. Thirteen representatives of Auburn's royalty participated in the parade, and tossed hundreds of beads and candy to the crowd.

In front of a packed house at the DeWitt Theater Saturday night, two young ladies were crowned as two of Auburn newest representatives. Danielle, a 12 year old 6th grader at Northside School, and the daughter of John and Julie, earned the title of Junior Miss Auburn and a $200 Scholarship Bond. Sophie, a 7 year old 2nd grader at Skyridge Elementary, and the daughter of Doug and Tami, earned the title of Young Miss Auburn and a $150 Scholarship Bond. These two young ladies will join Miss Auburn and Teen Miss Auburn making appearances throughout the year, and serving the Auburn community. Also crowned that evening was Davina of Weimar, who earned the title of "Mother of the Year". Davina will spend her year serving the Auburn community along with the other queens and also promoting Operation Mom, an organization dedicated to supporting our troops overseas. The pageant scholarships were sponsored by Design Source. Other pageant sponsors include, Fossum International Karate and Kickboxing, Foster Graphics, Newcastle Florist and Chevy's Fresh Mex. |
